What is Burial Assistance?

This is a one-time grant that assists in meeting the burial costs of deceased persons whose relatives are unable to meet such costs. Burial assistance is offered to applicants who undertook funeral expenses and are experiencing hardships to pay. It can also be given to a funeral agency to undertake a pauper's burial.

How does one qualify for Burial Assistance?

• An applicant will need to apply for social assistance which must be submitted to the applicant's district Local Board Office with a copy of the death certificate and bills.

• An application can be made for a burial order which has to be made out to the Social Welfare Office in the district where the applicant resides or where the deceased resided.

What are the required documents?

The documents to be submitted along with the application are:

• Death Certificate

• Funeral Bills/Receipts/Pro Forma invoices
